Running out of fuel, user error and low pressure are among the top seven common boiler faults according to one of Cornwall’s leading heating specialists.
Blue Flame Heating Solutions, which is celebrating its 30thanniversary this year, put together the figures after analysing three decades of data.
The company, based on Kernick Industrial Estate, was founded by Mark Bolitho and Paul Smith in October 1988, with fellow director, Simon Foxhall, joining the company in 2011.
Since then Blue Flame engineers have attended 324,800 boilers for domestic and commercial customers across Cornwall.
The stats were put together by the firm’s maintenance team superviser, Grant Doe.
Grant said: “When I started going through our database I was staggered by how many jobs we’ve actually attended over the last 30 years.
“However, we’ve got 12,000 customers from Land’s End to Bude and demand is always high for our team of experts, so it’s easy to see how the figures build up.”
According to the data the top seven common faults for combination boilers are:
- User error
- Running out of fuel
- Low pressure
- Failed expansion vessel
- Failed pump
- Control issues
Grant added: “We’ve got a brilliant back office team, so a lot of the issues caused by user error can be sorted over the phone quickly an easily.
“As legislation and the consumer have driven manufactures to produce more efficient appliances they in turn have become more complex, in the unfortunate event of an appliance breakdown, replacing essential electrical components in a modern combination boiler can be an expensive exercise. It is easy to see why our service plans have become so popular.
“It is an incredible achievement and I feel proud to have developed my career here with an amazing team. We’re looking forward to hitting the 400,000 mark!”
