Blue Flame Heating Solutions, based in Penryn have joined in a new partnership with Cornwall College Camborne to launch a new training programme for prospective gas engineers & plumbers from across Cornwall.
The ‘Blue Flame Accredited Training Academy’ in partnership with Cornwall College began as an initial idea in 2013. The current training provider used by Blue Flame, closed its doors on the gas engineering courses leaving the newest Blue Flame apprentices without a course to attend to gain their qualifications.
This led, to talks with Cornwall College to establish a new training programme that could not only provide a learning environment for Blue Flame apprentices but for other prospective learners across Cornwall also
In 2015, the academy was officially launched and learners are already enrolled within the programme. The partnership creates a specialised learning environment and learners are given the opportunity to learn skills both within the college environment and direct within the workplace at Blue Flame. The Course framework includes theory, practical workshops, presentations and 1:1 mentoring as well as the opportunity to gain first hand business knowledge by taking part in work experience with Blue Flame.
At the end of their level 2 training, learners are invited to apply for a full time apprenticeship with Blue Flame. Successful applicants will then go on to continue their level 3 studies & practical skills at Blue Flame and with the college where they will complete their apprenticeship and become fully qualified technical engineers.
Blue Flame Director and Training Academy Co-ordinator, Paul Smith is delighted with this new opportunity and says…
“This new partnership will provide a much needed up lift to the skills required in the plumbing and heating trade in Cornwall. Initial responses from the students are very encouraging and I am sure we can develop this training path to a market leading entry into a very technical and growing industry. We have already created opportunities for 4 trainees and will be looking to recruit more in the early part of 2016”.
Jonathan Ninnes Curriculum Lead for Construction at Cornwall College goes on to say….
“We have been working hard on developing the right kind of learning environment for our students. We would like our students to not only gain the right qualifications but they also need to understand how the industry works and what it is like to work for a firm such as Blue Flame and that is something this partnership will help to achieve”
Both Cornwall College & Blue Flame are looking forward to the new venture and are confident it will aid in creating a new generation of technical excellence amongst the Gas & Plumbing engineers of the future across Cornwall.
